This section will provide tips for people seeking to rent apartments in Britain. It will evolve over time, but if you have any questions please get in touch with us.
Basic steps for safe and trusted accommodation rentals:
- Always check out the agency or owner of the property.
- Search online to see if there have been any negative reports (try adding the word ‘complaints’ or ‘scam’ after the name of the agent/owner).
- Check if they have any credentials or accreditation – and make sure that they are legitimate by contacting or visiting the official websites of the accreditation organisation.
- Ask to see the rental terms & conditions and check them thoroughly.
- Ensure that you have contact numbers for the agency/owner and ensure that they are working.
- Where possible, use a resource such as Google Street View to see the property and its immediate surroundings.
- For longer lets, always try to view the property or have someone you trust view it.
- Check all the above before paying a deposit
- Note – It is inadvisable to use untraceable payment methods such as Wire Transfers – be particularly wary if you are asked to do so.
